Fife
Fife (pronounced "fee-fay") is a traditional Croatian restaurant. But it is the
most authentic Croatian restaurant in Split. Everything is homemade, even the
gnocchi and wine. Fife is a "family-style" restaurant, meaning they bring big
bowls and platters of food that you share with the whole table. You can't ever
really be sure what they will be serving on a particular day, because they only
use what is fresh and in-season in Split at the time.
During the summer, the have octopus salad and plenty of grilled thallasic
fishes. During the cooler months you can expect stuffed cabbage and gnocchi with
pastizada (a Croatian meat dish, local to Split, slow-cooked in red wine).
Everything we have ever had at this restaurant has been good, but you will have
to ask what they have on the particular day you are there.
The wine is very cheap but tastes homemade, so if you a wine connoisseur, you
may want to get a Croatian beer instead. Overall, the prices at restaurant Fife
are very reasonable. You can have a big meal and some wine for under 6 Euros.
Our recommendation is to order small portions of lots of different dishes so you
can try lots of the different Croatian dishes.
There are two entrances to the restaurant. The old portion of the restaurant is
a bit underground. I will warn you, that section is usually only men. It seems
almost like a "guys only" thing with the locals. Most of the tourist go to the
other entrance, which is actually on the opposite side of the pedestrian street.

Konoba Varos
The restaurant is located in the former fisher and farmer district. It offers
rustic comfort and an excellent selection of Dalmatian dishes. Good
price-performance ratio - we recommend to book a table especially when you visit
Split in the summer.

Boban
The luxurous and nobly equIpped restaurant is particularly popular among
businessmen, politicians and celebrities. It is one of the most distinguished
establishments in Dalmatia. Delicious seafood, fish and meat dishes can be found
on the menu, and there is also a great selection of Croatian and Slovenian
wines.
